PHOENICIA A LEWIS

Behind this Wall
The Middle East was always a scary mystery to me until I served in Iraq in 2009. There I met people who lived their lives, as best they could, inside a combat zone. From that experience I decided there was more to the Middle East than violence. In Iraq I saw humanity. After returning to the U.S. and making Palestinian friends, reading about the creation of the state of Israel and the seperation wall that keeps Palestinians and Israeli's apart I decided I wanted to explore if the people living behind the seperation walls in the holy land were just like everyone I knew in America and those I met all over the world. I wanted to see if they were in fact trying to make the most of life, regardless of their situations. This is the story of the everyday things that I saw while living inside their walls.
